Your sig

[edit]

Hi reinyday - I've been noticing your sig on WP:CFD... this is probably something you know all about but... you do know about being able to use four tildes (~~~~) to sign, don't you? Or have you done some fancy trick with your signature to stop it linking back to your user page? Grutness...wha? 10:22, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Most people don't know that you can get just the time stamp by typing five tildes (~~~~~), which is what I used to do:
-- Reinyday, ~~~~~
Now, I've edited my preferences and selected the "Raw signatures" box and changed my nickname to "-- Reinyday," so I only have to type four tildes (~~~~) to sign my unlinked name. -- Reinyday, 16:36, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
Ah. that explains it. Makes it harder to get to your user page, but cut and paste does the job anyway. Makes for an interesting looking sig, though slow-on-the-uptake people like me may still mistake you for a newbie occasionally :) Grutness...wha? 23:43, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to say thanks for coming up with a very pleasing solution to the formatting issue on my userpage. I came back from vacation and logged on, wondering what I was going to try next to reorganize my userbox dump, and lo and behold, someone else had done it for me. Your user page

[edit]

One observation about your user page, if you change the line

{| border="1" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" style=" margin: 0.5em 1em 0.5em 0; background: #f9f9f9; border: 1px #aaa solid; border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 95%; width:100%"

to

{| border="1" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" style=" clear: right; margin: 0.5em 1em 0.5em 0; background: #f9f9f9; border: 1px #aaa solid; border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 95%; width:100%"

it will keep the three boxes that float to the right from overlapping the table, regardless of how long your Currently Working On list becomes in the future. Aside from that, you have a very nice user page - clean, simple, and informative. Koweja 00:52, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work with Template:MtDNA and Template:Y-DNA

[edit]

Hey, very nice work with Template:Y-DNA. I'm the one who began the Human Y-chromosome DNA haplogroups back in January, and had really been feeling lost for a way to clearly express the tree relationship of the haplogroup branching. I'm happy to come back some time later and see the problem's been solved! --Saforrest 05:24, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

California Congressional Districts stubs not current

[edit]

Thanks for setting up all the articles for California Congressional Districts. The stubs, however, reflect the old 1990s boundaries and not the post-2001 districts (which granted were not seated until the 2004 elections). For example, the 40th is not in fact Inyo and San Bernardino Counties on the eastern border, but the northern swath of Orange County (most of which used to be in the 39th). I don't have the expertise or inclination to go through and fix them all, but for the time being perhaps it would be wise to add something like "as of 2000" to the others. -choster 15:40, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Country Template categories

[edit]

Hello, I want to mention that when you add a category to templates, it makes pages look bad. For instance, Template:FRA, you added a category and it made 1998_Wimbledon_Championships#Top_10_Seeds look bad. You need to add the category without space, I think, like in Template:DEU. Thanks. Yo. I'm more or less on a break from life right now, but I noticed your edit and wanted to thank you. That page is not very finished, clearly, and will take a long time to get right. For now, the page is unfinished, and is not likely to be finished soon. I'm working on a bit of a side project with Wiki, though, and will be adding it to my signature when finished. Thanks for the edit, though. It's nice to see other people working with arcane templates. Happy editing! - Corbin Be excellent 00:09, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hmm. Maybe. The problem is that due to all the incest (yay?), most of the tree isn't direct-descendant. Unless there's some classification system for Greek gods that I don't know about, I'm not sure how that would pan out. Admittedly, it would be cool to just hide and show branches of the tree... - Corbin Be excellent 15:52, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Benediktas Mikulis

[edit]

Hi, I was wondering if you could provide a little more info about the following, from the first edit of the Benediktas Mikulis that you started:

Benedictus Mikulis was featured in a Finnish documentary about Lithuanian freedom fighters. He is also featured in the game Dust to Dust by Brendan Powell Smith.

I'm looking for, at the least, the name of the film, and a reference or link for the game, but any info you have would be most helpful. It's mainly for the work I'm doing on the Forest Brothers article. Thanks! heqs 20:24, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The game is minor, but the film was apparently a mainstream film. If I knew the name I would have put it in the article, but unfortunately I don't. Do you know when Benediktas Mikulis was born? — Reinyday, 23:36, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I'm glad that you liked my link finder tool. You didn't do anything wrong--unfortunately the results are not being updated. It's hosted by the German Wikimedia, and database replication was disabled for the English Wikipedia because it was slowing down the German database.

I understand that English updates will be re-enabled once a new disk drive is installed. I'm not sure when that will be; I'm in the US and the server is in Amsterdam, so it's outside of my control. Euclidean natural units

[edit]

I'd like to comment on your edit on Euclidean natural units with summary "I am removing the deletion template. I think my changes reflect the correct idea, and if so, this article should be renamed." Of course, you are free to remove the PROD template, but what's your reason for thinking that your changes reflect the correct idea? The guy who added the PROD tag said that the article is original research; are you disputing this? -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 04:15, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes I am disputing this; that's why I removed the tag. The claim of original research was based on searching for "Euclidean natural units" and finding no results. However, searching for Euclidean "natural units finds 11,700 results and Euclidean "natural unit finds an additional 716 results, so I think it is clear that "natural units" is a term used in Euclidean geometry, and I changed the article to reflect that belief. Since I am not familiar with this particular mathematic term, I said, "I think my changes reflect the correct idea," indicating that I might be wrong. Also, "natural unit" currently redirects to Planck units, so a disambiguation page should be created if my changes are correct. — Reinyday, 16:08, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
  • I found that there is an article on Natural units, so I fixed the redirect. — Reinyday, 16:16, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
    • The material entered is original research, thus there should be no google reference to it. It is a set of natural units but the method of derivation is different. Just as Planck units has its "named page", Euclidean Natural Units should remain a "named page". I am having difficulty with MathML thus have been unable to enter the mathematical process to illustrate how the ENU are derived. Mathematically it is simple, but trying to explain how it works without the equation sets is difficult. Currere 23:59, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't understand. I don't know what you mean by a "named page". I don't understand why you want to explain the derivation if it is original research. Please feel free to do what you think is best. As I said, I'm not familiar with this mathematic concept. — Reinyday, 07:08, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

i formally nominated the article (plus 2 related articles created by User:Currere) for deletion. at best it is WP:OR, but this stuff is likely pseudoscience. neither is appropriate for WP. r b-j 03:42, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi - was just looking at Template:Runes - what's up with all the question marks? How does one fix that, do you know? --Bookgrrl 02:08, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • All the characters show up for me, so I can't tell if I've fixed the problem for you. I've added a unicode template. Does it display properly now? — Reinyday, 03:44, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
    • No, it's still all full of little linked question marks apart from the transliteration line. When I look at the code, they all look like this |ᛇ -- I don't see anything there that would replace the question mark, it just looks like a literal "?". Maybe it's a setting on my computer so I can't see the code no matter whether I look at it in edit mode or view mode? --Bookgrrl 04:12, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah, it means that you don't have a font that will display the rune characters. You could probably find a font that would work to download. The links will still work to go to the relevant articles, and most articles have images in them. — Reinyday, 16:50, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Genealogy Software

[edit]

Should have expanded my comment a bit. what I was trying to say, that was unreferenced was the following part that says "There is currently a move to incorporate fields for the input of genealogical DNA test results, though this information can be added into the "Notes" field of almost all genealogy software." I can not find anything about this move to incorporate the DNA fields but I have worked out that it is a big money spinner for those involved in adding it their programs.(not a bad thing if you use the specialised feature) Thanks anyway Gioto

Trees/Tree (disambiguation) etc.

[edit]

Your changes to the disambiguation pages are pretty close to what various editors discussed, but decided against, earlier this summer. I see the logic, but I think your version makes it very difficult to find certain content. For example, someone searching for the Joyce Kilmer poem "Trees", would have to go through the following process:

  • Search on "Trees" > Tree article
  • Click disambiguation link > Tree (disambiguation) article
  • Scroll down one screen > Trees section
  • Click link to poem

It's likely that many users will give up along the way, assuming that there is no article on the poem.

Merging the Trees page with Tree (disambiguation) is better, IMO, but still requires a scroll-down. In any case, I think long disambiguation pages are awkward, and I don't see any practical advantages to them.

My inclination is to revert, but let me know what you think.--CJGB (Chris) 14:02, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • To find many items, the process is to locate the main article, click on the disambiguation link, and scroll down to find the correct item. I doubt users would give up from following this standard proceedure. I surveyed a number of articles pointing to "trees" and they were almost all intending the "tree" article, and not one of the alternatives. Perhaps once the links are fixed to read trees then it can be changed back, but for now this will certainly send most people where they are going. What I'm saying is that I think more people will be following an internal link to trees than searching for the trees poem. In addition, a number of the "trees" disambiguation links were listed on the "tree" disambiguation page, and I think that redundance is confusing compared to having it all on one page. — Reinyday, 03:38, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi, you made an edit to the links style article that essentially reversed a style recommendation. I'm curious, where did the first recommendation (limit links in the introduction) come from & where was it decided to reverse it? I thought the first treatment made a lot of sense. Thanks! --Paul 00:34, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I combined two different sections into one paragraph, and then they seemed to contradict each other (one line said you will have a lot of links in the intro because you are introducing new concepts and the other said don't put a lot of links in the intro). — Reinyday, 05:44, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Thank you for the rapid response. I think the change is a pretty significant style recommendation to be made while "reorganizing" an article. I will start a talk page topic with a suggestion.--Paul 14:06, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've restored the sentence in question per your comments. — Reinyday, 07:49, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Some edits on the Hyderabad (India) page

[edit]

Kindly check this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hyderabad_%28India%29&action=history. On 12th Oct at 04:43hrs, an administrator removed an external link (to some discussion forum) that he/she felt was an advertisement. However, whoever added that link (from the same IP address, 64.236.208.28, and perhaps someone related to that site) came back in a few hours and re-added that link, but this time by editing an existing link (to a local guide) that had been part of the page from earlier, and changing it to the link that was deleted by you. Can you kindly look this up? 59.93.77.205 05:43, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi. I don't think I removed any links. I just formatted them as references. — Reinyday, 05:48, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the reply. You certainly did not - I just noted that you have been active on this page as an administrator, and wondered if you could rectify that change that is against the spirit of wikipedia. I could make that change myself as a user, but I thought it would be in good spirit if an administrator did it, since the original change to remove an advertising link was made by an administrator. 59.93.77.205 06:11, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I understand the confusion. That line in the original message "and changing it to the link that was deleted by you." should read "and changing it to the link that was deleted by the administrator." Sorry for that :(. 59.93.77.205 06:17, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I guess I used the term administrator for editor. The problem is, I am associated with that site, and am not sure how much in the spirit of wikipedia it would be if I did it myself. What is the process in such a case?59.93.80.168 07:18, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why?

[edit]

Why did you restore a subjective definition of notability without participating in the ongoing discussion at Wikipedia talk:Notability, where I notice you haven't commented since November 10? Please talk with us about what you think the definition should be and why, please. -GTBacchus(talk) 23:14, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • First, I did post about my changes. Second, that is the definition of notability that existed at Wikipedia:Notability for two years. Third, I have been participating in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Notability in an ongoing fashion for years. — Reinyday, 23:17, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
I'm sorry; you edited the guideline before you posted to Talk, and I jumped before waiting a couple of minutes. The fact that the subjective definition has been there for two years might be why so many people complain that notability is subjective, which is the problem we're currently working to remedy. Please consult the ongoing discussion regarding definitions of notability. -GTBacchus(talk) 23:23, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you have commented on the talk page. I apologize for jumping the gun. I'll reply there. -GTBacchus(talk) 23:15, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gottesman clean up

[edit]

Hi. I'm very new to this, so my apologies if I ask a pretty basic question.

When I look through the history of the one entry I made under the name Gottesman, where I entered Eric Gottesman as follows (with a number of links):

Eric Gottesman — U.S. artist/activist, photographer, founder of The Vision Collective for Education, Art, Literature and Culture, Ltd., active with Ethiopian and other AIDS projects[2] [3]

I'm just trying to figure out why it was deleted so I can make sure subsequent entries are good.

Thanks!

Doing something about the ridiculous date autoformatting/linking mess

[edit]

Dear Reinyday—you may be interested in putting your name to, or at least commenting on this new push to get the developers to create a parallel syntax that separates autoformatting and linking functions. IMV, it would go a long way towards fixing the untidy blueing of trivial chronological items, and would probably calm the nastiness between the anti- and pro-linking factions in the project. The proposal is to retain the existing function, to reduce the risk of objection from pro-linkers. Tony 00:59, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hooray! I am very much interested. Thanks for letting me know! — Reinyday, 18:17, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Go go

[edit]

Hi there, I saw you moved the page. I've seen it written variously as go go, go-go and gogo, there really isn't an official name for it as far as i know. But it's good that Go go redirects there --AW 20:30, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I was just going with what was dominantly used in the article and the majority of links to the page. — Reinyday, 20:31, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Untagged image

[edit]

An image you uploaded, Image:Bergheim (Bavaria) coat of arms.jpg, was tagged with the coatofarms copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as seal. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 15:54, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Neuburg_an_der_Donau_coat_of_arms.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Speaking of the Dead

[edit]

Hi, I did some work on the article, Naming and speaking of the dead in Judaism, I am still not sure if it is the best name for it. I wanted to combine all the different types, including alav hashalom (it was orignally in a shared article with the Islamic type). Is it not be better to have Zt"l within Naming and speaking of the dead in Judaism as it is one unified page for the same topic? Epson291 06:32, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think this can turn into a better article, I added it to the Jewish life template, which I see you've seen by your edits. Epson291 06:33, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi. There's no reason not to have a unifying article and then separate articles, pointed to with the "Main" template. Zt"l is within Naming and speaking of the dead in Judaism. — Reinyday, 06:48, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, not sure I understand the link between Zeved habat and Naming and speaking of the dead in Judaism. Right now the latter article only seems to discuss honorifics. If you plan to add naming customs, perhaps a link could wait until this is added so the relationship between the two is made clearer. Best, --Shirahadasha 00:39, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of List of diss songs

[edit]

An editor has nominated List of diss songs, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of diss songs and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Thanks for your interset in improving WP:AIR project articles, and for abiding by the project consensus in your future edits. - BillCJ 19:28, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is not standard for Wikipedia articles. — Reinyday, 19:39, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

It is standard for Projects to have their own standards which may supercede the Wikipedia general standards for articles within their own projects. - BillCJ 19:46, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Projects are allowed to have there own guidelines, whether that page references it or not. If you have a problem with WP:AIR's guidelines contravening the standard ones on the location of the EL section, take it up with the project or with Wikipedia. It's not an issue to be dealt with on a page-by-page basis. - BillCJ 20:03, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

mtDNA template help?

[edit]

You might know better the nature of formatting Template:MtDNA than I. My edit before the last one seemed fine, but then I read in the discussion page someone notice that there seems to have been an error gone unchecked for some time; haplogroup pre-HV is not downstream from U, but rather descends directly from R. I tried to fix this, but now it looks somewhat messy. P should be on the other side of pre-JT, U should have K right under (or we could add haplogroup UK, as that is sometimes used the in literature of the subject; with U & K as descendants). Any help possible? Nagelfar 07:43, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've tried. Please let me know if I can be of further help! — Reinyday, 05:05, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Looks great thanks! The row with the line pointing to the mtMRCA is gone now, but it seems difficult to get that in there for me without haplogroup H shifting all the way to the bottom left of the template. Regards. Nagelfar 22:42, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't think that line is appropriate, since it doesn't exist for any of the other descendants. — Reinyday, 23:56, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

The reason why I and the other editor feel about the merge is that the article on Dissing was way too small to have a sub-section of the "diss" culture to be split off and made into another short article. I feel like the article being merged will beef up the main article, then energies can be focused on on article (instead of two). User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 19:26, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Silicon Valley Power, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Silicon Valley Power is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Silicon Valley Power, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Nine iron

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Nine iron, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add hangon on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Eliz81 22:40, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well hmmm... I thought this was weird. Looks like you created the nine iron page as a redirect to a golf related page, and someone went over it and replaced the information about the band nine iron instead. I'll put the deletion notice on their page too. Sorry about the confusion! Eliz81 22:42, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:El Machino.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:El Machino.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Carl (CBM · talk) 22:13, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:El Machino.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:El Machino.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:40, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CFD for Category:Jewish surnames

[edit]

Hey there, I came across your name in the edit history for Anti-bias curriculum and decided to have a look at your user page. My immediate thought was, this is somebody who has got to put in a comment in the discussion on Category:Jewish surnames (which I just finished reading through a couple of hours ago). I haven't commented yet myself -- still trying to work out what I want to say. There is a very vigorous debate going on, and I'm sure you must have some insights to contribute to the discussion. The CFD opened on November 11, so don't delay if you want to put your two cents in. Regards, Cgingold (talk) 03:26, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Fire sale (attack), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Fire sale. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Thank You & Question from March of Dimes

[edit]

Reinyday,

Thanks for reformatting my edit on the WalkAmerica / March for Babies page. I was hoping you could give me a brief explanation regarding how this kind of "name swap" occurs on Wikipedia. Now two URLs with the same content exists, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WalkAmerica, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_for_Babies. Will the WalkAmerica one eventually go away? If so, will a 301 permanent redirect be placed on the WalkAmerica page directing people to the March for Babies page? I am new to this, so any insight is greatly appreciated. Hope your enjoying the holidays!

Best, Marchforbabies —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marchforbabies (talkcontribs) 17:12, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi. There's actually only one page: March for Babies. The link for WalkAmerica just redirects to March for Babies. The redirect will never go away (unless someone deletes it, which is unlikely). So anytime someone looks for WalkAmerica, they will be redirected to the new name. I hope this helps! — Reinyday, 17:57, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
    • PS: If you work for March of Dimes, the information on your website for how to opt out of selling my contact information doesn't work, which is really frustrating. I did WalkAmerica once, but won't be participating again until there is a guarantee that the money I raise won't be used for animal testing. — Reinyday, 17:59, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Hello. Thanks for the quick response. I'm not sure the redirect is working correctly. If I click on the WalkAmerica link from a Google search result for "walkamerica," it does not redirect. Or if I click a WalkAmerica link from another wiki page say, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walkathon, it does not redirect. Any thoughts?
  • The redirect works fine for me. It takes me to the page that says:
March for Babies
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from WalkAmerica)

— Reinyday, 01:15, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

  • No. It will never change. Both URLs point to the same page and both URLs will continue to work and be valid. — Reinyday, 17:39, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Sandoval Grandes Exitos.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sandoval Grandes Exitos.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:04, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I was merging the disambig page "the Orphanage" into one at "Orphanage (disambiguation)," and noticed that you link to the first (now redirect) on your user page. I also saw that you've noted that "the Orphanage" page no longer exists, but I wanted to give you a heads-up about the page change so that you could (if you so desired) change the link to whichever Orphanage page you created which was (presumably) moved. Excellent work on adding the references to the 'risks' part of this article. That stopped 'em in their tracks! Gillyweed (talk) 21:43, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the prod template to the article Length (horse racing), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the prod template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Speedy deletion of Template:Y-DNA R

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:Y-DNA R requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>transclusionless</noinclude>).

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Purbach am Neusiedlersee map.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Purbach am Neusiedlersee map.png.

Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:34, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Ball bag (BDSM)

An editor has nominated Ball bag (BDSM), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ball bag (BDSM) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:00, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to create a new WikiProject: Genetic History

[edit]

I have put up a suggestion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals to create a new WikiProject, WikiProject: Genetic History. If you would support this, please add a sig at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Genetic_History

To quote from what I've written there:

Description
A wikiproject for articles on DNA research into genetic genealogy and genealogical DNA tests; the history and spread of human populations as revealed by eg human Y-chromosome and mitochondrial DNA haplogroups; and similar. Many such articles can be found in Category:Genetic genealogy and its subcategories, notably the subcategories on human haplogroups.
Rationale
  • My direct motivation for seeking this Wikiproject was a recent run-in at Y-chromosomal Aaron, where I desperately missed the lack of a relevant WikiProject talk page to go to, to attract the input, advice and views of knowledgeable editors in this area.
There's a lot of general public interest in the proposed subject area -- eg the Y-chromosomal Aaron page is apparently getting well over 100 hits a day, and over the last 18 months or so there's been a lot of material added, by a fair number of different editors, mostly editing different pages which are particularly relevant to them. IMO, a central wikiproject would be useful, and also a good place to be able to bring WP:OR, WP:V, and WP:general cluelessness issues for wider informed input.
Wikipedia:WikiProject Molecular and Cellular Biology and Wikipedia:WikiProject Evolutionary biology do already exist, but their focus is much much broader. With regard to those project's charters, I believe the subject would be seen as a rather specialist niche topic area, rather out of the mainstream of those project's normal focus. On the other hand, I believe that there are a number of wikipedia editors (and readers) who are specifically interested in the subject, who would find advantage if there were a specific wikiproject for it. Jheald (talk) 12:56, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you think this would be a good idea, it's a target for WikiProjects to have at least five "interested" signatures to show there's some support, before they get going.

Alternatively, if you think it would be a bad idea, please leave a comment in the comments section.

Either way, I'd appreciate your thoughts, at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Genetic_History

Thanks, Jheald (talk) 14:01, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Zapposlogo.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Zapposlogo.gif.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:06, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Yelplogo.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Proposed deletion of Yogurt-kun

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Yogurt-kun, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

No references, not written in an encyclopedia manner. Dead link and almost no content.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Raion or raion?

hi there,

thank you for your message. Yes you are right, I started moving, however noticed that there are some difficulties with the capitalisation. That would be great. sincerly Gryffindor (talk) 16:40, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • In English, names (i.e. proper nouns) are capitalized and regular nouns are not. So even though the word "county" is usually not capitalized, it is capitalized when it is in the name of "Orange County". So I would think "Raion" would have to be capitalized when it is in the name of a place. — Reinyday, 02:33, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey Reinyday! I have twice removed the following text from the 2009 in archaeology page:

The first time I removed this, I explained myself on the talk page for the article. I just saw that you put the text there again, saying it was removed without explanation. To avoid this happening again, I'm posting here now.

Archaeology does not study species that old. It is concerned with the material remains of human culture, humans themselves, and their natural environment. Titanoboas were long extinct by the time the first humans arrived, and therefore fall outside archaeology. The text should be placed in the 2009 in paleontology article. :) Stefan Kruithof (talk) 20:32, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

History of Lutheranism

[edit]

Hi, please don't take my reversion of your last edit the wrong way. It isn't that I don't want you to contribute. It is just that copyrighted material is not allowed on Wikipedia, so I had to remove it. I'd be extraordinarily pleased if you wrote a solid history section like the one Encyclopedia Britannica has in the main body of its article, though. I will note that several years ago, the Lutheranism article had a history section, and someone removed it and put it in a separet article. It was entirely unusable because of severe POV issues and no citations, however. Although I was glad to see you sourced your addition, it was to a church website rather than a published book or other resource of higher reputability.--Epiphyllumlover (talk) 05:44, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • The text was taken verbatim from the website you cited it from, but without quotes. But it is such a small quotation perhaps it is only "fair use"? Anyway, I added some more history material to your introduction that takes us most of the way from 1517-1830s. Naturally there are gaps to fill and a need for even more citations. I moved the history material down the page because, for now, this is a work in progress. If we can find something on the spread of Lutheranism, it could be a nice segway into "Throughout the World". Possibly, it could even be combined with "Throughout the World" or even "church fellowship". Over 30,000 people visit the Lutheranism page every month, so out of consideration for them I think it is best to have the most developed sections first. If the history section gets longer and more developed, it could replace History of Lutheranism and become a "main article" for a smaller history introduction in the Lutheranism section. Thanks for working on history, by the way. I tried to get others to look at history on the Lutheranism Wikiproject page, but it seems to me that the Article Collaboration activity has been dead for a long time now.--Epiphyllumlover (talk) 04:22, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • The text was not taken verbatim. Thanks for expanding the History section; I'm not very familiar with the topic so I can't add much. It should be the first section. You do not need to move sections that are in progress. If more people see the section, they can help work on it. Users expect to find certain things (like a "See also" section at the end) and I try to facilitate helping people find what they are looking for. — Reinyday, 20:23, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

I notice that this category you created is unpopulated (empty). In other words, no Wikipedia pages belong to it. If it remains unpopulated for four days, it may be deleted, without discussion, in accordance with Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#C1. I'm notifying you in case you wish to (re-)populate it by adding to articles/subcategories that belong in it.

I blanked the category page. This will not, in itself, cause the category to be deleted. It serves to document (in the page history) that the category was empty at the time of blanking and also to alert other watchers that the category is in jeopardy. You are welcome to revert the blanking if you wish. However, doing so will not prevent deletion if the category remains empty.

If you created the category in error, or it is no longer needed, you can speed up the deletion process by tagging it with db-author.

I am a human being, not a bot, so you can contact me if you have questions about this. Best regards, --Stepheng3 (talk) 17:45, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • It looks like in March 2009, someone depopulated the category I made in August 2006, and moved all the content articles to Category:NK Dinamo Zagreb managers. I'm not sure which name is better, but using "football manager" seems standard. — Reinyday, 15:22, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

  • The category exists as does the image page. If you remove the category before the image page is deleted, you ruin people's ability to navigate to that image page through the category system, and thus prevent their ability to comment on the deletion of the image. A tag has been placed on File:Mercedes Benz Hippie Sponti Version.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is a single quote by Groucho Marx. Google search shows no common usage beyond his one quote in Animal Crackers. Non-notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. LeilaniLad (talk) 17:02, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of IGENEA

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on IGENEA requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion () tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Alexf(talk) 10:14, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Bergheim_(Bavaria)_map.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Bergheim_(Bavaria)_map.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hello. I see you started the Lanier family tree. I was wondering if you'd be interested in expanding it, especially the American branch. There is for example J. Hicks Lanier and his father Sartain Lanier (who probably also deserves a page for co-founding a NYSE-traded corporation), and apparently John Patton Erwin's wife Fanny Lanier Williams (1796-1872), who was Henry Clay's daughter? The references I found all suggest he was Clay's son-in-law, so she must've been his daughter. However, her name does not come up on Clay's page. In any case, the Lanier family tree really should be expanded. Could you please do this?Zigzig20s (talk) 14:19, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jewelry wire gauge

[edit]

I saw your edits to Jewelry wire gauge. I'll go along with your change back to "thinner", but I don't agree with your edit changing "jewelry making" to "jewelry manufacture". To me, the word "manufacture" implies production on a fairly large scale, usually in a factory or large workshop, but many people make jewelry as either a hobby or as individual craftsmen and women. The phrase "jewelry making" includes all of these. – CorinneSD (talk) 19:59, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I have noticed that you are using accounts Rachel in different Wikipedias but you have not merged them into a global account yet. Global accounts become mandatory since 15 April 2015, and all non-merged accounts will be renamed.

As of now, you have accounts Rachel in other projects, for example, in Ukrainian and German Wikipedia, which are not merged with your global account. Only your account in English Wikibooks is attached to your Rachel account now, so please click on b:Special:MergeAccount and finish the unification process. You can check the state of your account unification at Special:CentralAuth/Rachel

If you don't merge your accounts by 15 April, your accounts Rachel can be renamed.

If you have questions you can ask them on my talk page. Best regards — NickK (talk) 00:03, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Gin transfer requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.ibiblio.org/quiltart/images/reference/gintransfer-polymerlcay.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The file File:Neuburg an der Donau map.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Orphaned map.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ~ Rob13Talk 02:55, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Sociology magazines requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. – Fayenatic London 18:31, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Toby Jones (artist) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. January 2019

[edit]

Hello, Reinyday. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. I'm sorry, but a page you created  Toby Jones (artist) has been deleted as meeting one or more of the Categories for Speedy Deletion.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects of articles must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources which are unconnected with the subject and which provide verifiable information. Someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject.

Any deficiencies should be remedied before reposting as they can lead to repeated deletions.

The new user tutorial can help you avoid future problems.

If you want to try again, please use the Article Wizard or articles for creation to guide you through the creation process.

You may find this tool useful for finding sources: Google custom search

Don't feel discouraged. My first attempts at creating articles were deleted too. You can ask for help at the TEAHOUSE

Problem with your custom signature

[edit]

You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your preferences are set to interpret your custom signature as wikitext. However, your current custom signature does not contain any wikitext.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box. (It might already be empty.)
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

More information about custom signatures is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thank you. 18:03, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
