Welcome Notes!

[edit]

Welcome, BigGuyC, to Wikipedia, the greatest encyclopedia on Earth! You seem to be off to a good start. Hopefully you will soon join the vast army of Wikipediholics! You may wish to review the welcome page, tutorial, and stylebook, as well as the avoiding common mistakes and Wikipedia is not pages. The Wikipedia directory is also quite useful.

By the way, an important tip: To sign comments on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automagically add your name and the time after your comments.

To basically understand the principles and rules governing Wikipedia, you should take a look the Five Pillars that underlie all rules here.

Finally, here are some jobs that you can work on in your spare time:

Hi, Bigguy, nice to see that you're returning to the States. Before you start editing away, maybe starting at some of the open tasks I posted above, you should now just a few rules:

  • First, Be Bold! This is a wiki, so anything that you edit or change can be reversed. If you notice a mistake in an article, or something that you think should be changed, go ahead and click "edit this page."
  • However, remember to keep a neutral point of view while writing
  • When it comes to people on this 'pedia, sometimes things can get a little hot. (I speak from experience :). When that happens, you just stay cool and abide by the rules, most importantly the three revert rule. Also remember never to stoop to the level of making personal attacks.
  • A simplified version of this can be found here and here, and is all based on this.

Sorry to drown you in rules, but I know if someone told me about all of this when I started, things would have turned out a little bit easier.

I suggest dropping by the Wikipedia tutorial to learn the ropes. If you have any other questions, comments, or any other problems, just contact me on my talk page. Have fun, and happy Wikiing!
